Union Minister of Urban Development Venkaiah Naidu launched Digital libraries in 13 New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) Navyug schools after review meeting of all Union Territories for flagship programme at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on Thursday.
Speaking after launching the Digital libraries of NDMC the Minister said that school library is not only to promote building a knowledge driven community for the future but also to develop the Road Map of students life, which show the path of struggle to get success.
“Books are our best friends because books can provide us company in our bliss and rainy days,” adding, the council had provided a digital platform of book readers to the school children, which would completely transform the manner in which they information access 68 lakh books for primary class to research level are made available at a click,” said the Minister.
NDMC has endeavored digital libraries in its schools using e-Granthalaya Integrated library Management Software from National Informatics Centre (NIC), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India.
“It is used for automation of in-house activities of libraries and to provide various member services. The software provides built-in Web OPAC interface to publish the library catalog over Internet and is UNICODE complaint thus, supports data entry in local languages,” NDMC stated.
“Upgrading libraries into digital form is the step in continuation to the smart classroom already implemented by NDMC and all school libraries will be upgraded to digital libraries in next six months,” the Minister said.
