People of Talcher and surrounding areas have once again urged the Railways Miniter to develop the Talcher railway station with all modern facilities and to run coaching trains through a loop line from Talcher railway station to Angul via FCI.
The Talcher Rail Yatri Samanwaya Samiti, a public body comprising people from different walks of life, recently dispatched a letter to Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu with an estimate of `149.13 crore for development the proposed loop line. The Samiti urged the Minister to make of the said amount in the coming Railway Budget.
Samiti, at its meeting held recently, also expressed unhappiness that the railway station, which had been constructed in 1928, has not been developed despite their repeated requests.
“The Talcher railway station is giving revenue of around `7,500 crore per annum. While it is one of the oldest stations of the country, basic facilities have remained to be a dream,” lamented Samiti members.
While the meeting was held under chairmanship of Samiti president Chitanya Sahoo, convenor Kandarpa Sahoo narrated the details development of loop line (around 14 km) survey of Talcher to Angul via FCI.
Among others, BinodPani, Chaitanya Pradhan, GirishSahoo, Dibakar Pradhan, Ananda Acharya, Dasarathi Sahoo, Nrusingha Chandra Gochhayat and Narottam Samant were present. The Samiti also sent copies of the letter to Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Railway highway officials to take up the their demand with the Railways Ministry.
