State Govt to offer more facilities to cops

Friday, 30 September 2016 | PNS | Lucknow

After facilitating a day off to men in khaki after every ten days of work, the state government is looking forward to giving more facilities and also to resolve their problems.

To meet the government’s resolve, a three-member team led by Chief Secretary Rahul Bhatnagar and comprising Principal Secretary (Home), Debashish Panda and DGP Javeed Ahmed visited Gorakhpur on Thursday. They met the cops, heard their problems and assured redressal at the earliest.

While the interaction was done on how to improve police image, sources said that the intention was to forward facilities to the policemen before the coming Assembly polls as they played a key role in smooth polling.

The three top officials reached Gulariha police station in Gorakhpur on Thursday morning where five cops and one sub-inspector from each police station of the district were already present. Besides, the IG Zone and DIG range of Gorakhpur were present. The top brass asked the cops on how to improve the image and working of UP Police and how could the cops do good work.

The cops shot back that most of their problems stemmed from other departments but in case of failure, action was initiated against them and not against the officers concerned. They demanded to fix responsibility of every officer. They suggested that relations with officers of Revenue department be improved and in case a matter related to the department, only Revenue department officers be punished.

The cops further demanded that their conveyance allowance be raised while women constables demanded that they be given accommodation at the place of postings and be provided conveyance.

Chief Secretary Rahul Bhatnagar later assured that all problems raised by the cops will be put before the state government for redressal.
