Expressing concern over rising pollution level in Raipur city, leader of Congress legislature Party (ClP) TS Singhdeo on Saturday asked Chief Minister Raman Singh to launch a special drive for controlling the pollution level.
In a letter written to the Chief Minister on Saturday, Singhdeo while referring to a report of World Health Organisation (WHO), which has kept Raipur among top-ten polluted cities across the globe, said that various schemes launched by State Government for controlling pollution have failed in yielding desired results.
Pointing towards public interest litigation (PIl) and directives issued by different courts, he said that despite serious discussions any significant result is still awaited.
“Most of the heavy, medium and small scale industries do not use Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP) units. The departmental official in the name of action just issue notices. Several vehicles emitting smoke are roaming free round the city,” he said adding special attention is required in this direction.
Singhdeo stressed over carrying out sapling plantation in large areas. According to the ClP, the sewerage system especially in cities is unplanned due to which waste water pool are created at different places thereby providing fertile grounds for diseases and pollution.
Over solid waste management, he reminded that in year 2013-13, solid waste management system was implemented but it barely survived a year or more.
Mentioning about waste produced by different hospitals, he said “waste produced by hospitals, medical and nursing colleges is being dumped in open. Hospital waste management system needs to be implemented strictly,” he added.
