Rural book fair near B'pur from today

Saturday, 06 February 2016 | PNS | BRAHMAPUR

A group of intellectuals, academicians and social activists of the town in association with the lathi Educational and Charitable Trust will organise a three-day book fair at Badadanda Street at lathi village on the city outskirts from Saturday.

The main objective of the book fair is to inculcate a reading habit among the rural readers community, including students who stay in villages with no exposure to such book fairs, said Advisory Board member of the Gramanchal Pustak Mela (Rural Book Fair) Preparatory Forum Prasanta Kumar Das at a press release here on Friday.

The forum has decided to involve more and more students and general readers of the nearby villages to make the book fair successful and meaningful.

Expressing concern over the decline of reading habits among the rural readers, the organisers said book fairs were mostly confined to towns and cities which deprive senior citizens, house wives, and students residing in villages as they did not have any scope to visit book fairs held in cities and towns.  The book fair would not only inculcate reading habits but also help the readers choose reading materials of their choice at ease right at their door steps, Das added.
