A consultative workshop on establishment of an Odia University held here on Friday on behalf of the Higher Education Department took a consensus resolution that a research-based Odia University would be set up in the State instead of an Open University.
The meeting convened by Higher Education Department Special Secretary Dr Shashibhushan Padhi as per the decision taken in the fourth meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Committee was organised at the Nabakrushna Choudhury Research and Development Centre here on Friday.
Higher Education Minister Pradeep Panigrahi gracing the occasion as chief guest stated that the Government is committed to set up a Odia university. Present at the meeting, noted educationists, litterateurs, Vice-Chancellors of different universities and noted linguists opined for establishment of a research-based Odia university for development and promotion of Odia language. Thereafter, a consensus resolution was passed.
Among others, Utkal University Vice-Chancellor Ashok Das, Odisha Open University VC Prof Shrikant Mohapatra, former Ravenshaw Principal Amulya Panda, linguists Prof Khageshwar Mohapatra, Prof Natabar Satapathy, Prof Kishore Basa, Rajkishore Mishra and Dr Sipra Mallick, Odia Bhasha Sangram Samiti convenor Shankarshan Parida, joint convenor Gajanan Mishra, Dr Subrat Prusthi, journalist Subhash Patnaik, MP Baishnab Parida, Odia Bhasha Pratisthan director Dr Tamasadas Mohapatra and VCs of other universities of the State were present.
