Civil society organisation Right to Fight on Wednesday staged a Rail Roko at the Kantabanji station demanding setting up of a rail wagon factory in the district.
The activists, supported by many other associations including the local traders’ body, sat on the tracks disrupting train services on the route. The Puri-Ahemadbad express was stuck at the station for over two hours.
“We have close to 70 acres of land lying unused here. The Railways can use this land to set up a wagon factory. We have been demanding for this factory since long and would intensify our protests if the Government fails to fulfil our demands,” said an agitator.
The agitators, however, cleared the track after Government officials
met them and assured that their views would be forwarded to the concerned authorities.
