Friday, 18 November 2016 | PNS | Dehradun

While the bank officials are assuring that the currency crisis would be resolved in a few days the common people, found queuing in serpentine queues at several banks and ATMs were seen debating animatedly what the Centre should have done to spare them the protracted cash crisis. This correspondent visited various government offices and private sector enterprises to find that how to withdraw cash from the account without having to stand and wait in queue. Some of them have remained skeptical as to whether the demonetisatin step of the central government will be able to help in mitigating corruption as intended.

Some opined that if the move of the central government succeeds then the Bharatiya Janata Party might get an edge over other political parties in the coming assembly election otherwise they would have to face negative consequences.

Rohit, a political science student of DAV (PG) College said that it was good move of the prime minister Narendra Modi to curb corruption but poor preparation and complete disinterest of district magistrate to execute the scheme resulted in considerable inconvenience for many people trying to withdraw their earned money.

Sahastradhara resident Ashish Singh Bisht said, “We are happy that central government has taken decision to curb corruption. However it is true that people are facing problems while trying to withdraw money from ATMs. At the same time, government should have taken steps to minimize inconvenience being faced by the people while withdrawing money from the ATMs. Such chaos should not continue for long time,” he said.

Mahendra Singh, a school teacher said that government should make announcement regarding the facilitating of money withdrawal and related monetary works at banks without delay especially for those people whose daughters or sons are slated to get married or in case of families facing serious health problems, he said.

Sachin Gupta, one of the persons standing in queue awaiting his turn for the currency said, “life has become miserable and if I withdraw Rs 2500 from the ATM, it would not serve our purpose for this month. I have to stand in the queue on three or four occasions to withdraw funds for our monthly expense especially as not all like school administration officials do not take delay in the payment of fees,”   he said.
