The Jagatsinghpur police on Saturday conducted raids at three places belonging to Orissa Stevedores limited (OSl) managing director Mahimananda (Mahima) Mishra, who is an accused in the Seaways Shipping and logistics Private limited (SSPl) general manager Mahendra Swain murder case.
Reports said the raids were carried out at Mishra’s farmhouse at Nischintakoili in Cuttack district, his Hotel Empires at Saheed Nagar in Bhubaneswar and his residential house at Odia Bazar in Cuttack city.
Some incriminating documents were seized during the raids, sources said.
Notably, police had earlier cancelled the firearms licences of Mishra and his son Charchit on November 23. Besides, police had also inspected the OSl’s helicopter at the Bhubaneswar airport.
A lookout Circular has been issued against Mishra in connection with the murder of Swain. The OSl chief has moved the Orissa High Court seeking anticipatory bail and challenging the lookout Circular.
It may be recalled that on October 26 shots were fired at Swain near the Ambedkar Bhawan at Madhuban Colony in Paradip. Two miscreants had hurled crude hand bombs at the SUV by which Swain was travelling to his office in the morning. While Swain was fleeing to save himself after alighting from the vehicle, the miscreants fired two rounds at him, leading to his death on the spot.
Probing into the incident, the Paradip police have so far arrested five accused, Rakesh Chaubey and Riyasat Hussain of Jamshedpur, Muhammad Samin of Jharkhand and Manoj Gochhayat and Shiva of Cuttack.
Sources said Chaubey had received Rs 12 lakh from the OSl to arrange a contract killer for Swain’s murder. Chaubey had reportedly engaged Hussain to kill Swain.
