Arrested senior IPS officer Joydeep Nayak was again remanded to judicial custody after his three-day police remand ended on Saturday. Although Vigilance police sought a further two-day remand of the Tripura-cadre officer, a Vigilance (Special) Court here sent him to the Choudwar Circle Jail posting the police remand plea to Monday for hearing.
It was learnt that Nayak, who was arrested last week for his alleged key role in a corruption case, has again approached the Orissa High Court for regular bail. The HC had earlier this month refused to grant him anticipatory bail and subsequently following his arrest, the Vigilance court judge RC Hota had turned down his bail plea.
The IG-rank officer during an inter-cadre deputation in Odisha had allegedly embezzled Rs88 lakh that was meant for computer education of SC and ST students when he was officiating as IG of the Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) earlier this year.
