Saturday, 31 December 2016 | PNS | Chandigarh

lights, Camera and Punjabi action! the Punjab Government has added Punjabi tadka to your daily dose of movies. Anyone going to the multiplexes will find at least one Punjabi show daily following a diktat by the State Government.

The decision, expected to give a much-needed financial boost to the Punjabi film industry, was said to be aimed at promoting Punjabi language and culture. As per the formal orders, issued on Friday, the Government has made one show of any Punjabi movie mandatory in the multiplexes across the State.

The notification issued by Department of Home stated that the decision has been taken to promote Punjabi language and Culture. It has been learnt that the significant move is the outcome of the initiative taken in this regard by the Punjab Arts Council chief and a well-known Punjabi anchor Satinder Satti.

She had been for long holding meetings with the senior State Government functionaries on the issue. However, the decision, it seems, has failed to go down well with some. “If the Government really wanted to promote Punjabi, they should make Punjabi movies tax free,” said a cinema lover.
