The Indian Institute of Architects (IIA), Odisha Chapter launched its three-day 9th annual event “Design Carnival and Building Expo 2016” with a theme “Urban Rejuvenation” at the Janata Maian here on Friday.
The expo inaugurated by Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department Secretary Madhusudan Padhi witnessed a large gathering of architects, urban planners and policy makers on the day. Among others, IIA national chairman Dibya Kush and IIA, Odisha Chapter Chairman Sagarendra Mohapatra were present.
Building material companies have put up stalls displaying their products and innovations in the housing sector.
About 200 students from nine architecture colleges of Odisha would participated in various competitions to be organized during the carnival.
Apart from this, a friendly cricket match between students and professionals was organised on the day.
In his speech, Padhi stated building professionals and architects bear a serious responsibility and opportunity to lead the mass in search of a sustainable solution utilising the existing urban assets in a smart way.
Similarly, New Indian Express editor Srimay Kar, who was also present, said, “The world is facing environmental and social challenges. Our country needs to promote urban regeneration, environmental sustainability and economic development in global platform.”
