Rubbshing BSP’s criticism in the Assembly on dipping law and order situation in UP, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday asked that if rule of law prevailed during the previous Mayawati regime, then why was the party rejected by the people in 2012 Assembly polls.
Taking a jibe at BSP chief Mayawati, Yadav said, “During her stint as CM, Mayawati installed her statues across the state. Now the state has such a CM, who has installed her life size oil portrait in the Assembly.’’
The CM was intervening in the Assembly during an adjournment notice on law and order moved by the leader of Opposition Gaya Charan Dinkar of the BSP.
The CM commented, “The BSP leader is referring to history. Your party won the majority in the Assembly nearly ten years back in 2007. What meaningful work was done by the previous government for toning the law and order situation and strengthening the institutional frame work for enforcement of law IJ”
“If you were so diligent and efficient and improved the law and order then why was your party rejected by the people in 2012,’’ querried Akhilesh Yadav.
“The BSP is targeting our government on the law and order issue. But they forget what Mayawati had said on law and order after a BJP leader made derogatory remarks against her,’’ pointed out Yadav.
``Mayawati dared us to arrest the BJP leader. She had said that if I call her Bua (aunty), then the BJP leader be arrested and the CM should show that he is in command of the law and order situation. Did the government not arrest the leader,‘’ asked the Chief Minister.
``I hoped that the new leader of Opposition would be a better person than the previous leader (Swami Prasad Maurya). But he has proved that he is worse than his predecessor. The new incumbent has no suggestion to offer to the government and he is criticising us only for the sake of it,’’said Yadav.
``In fact, the SP government is clearing the mess left by the previous BSP regime. The BSP leader is ignorant of the fact that the ‘Women Helpline 1090’ has helped over 4 lakh women who faced difficulties at public places,’’ said the CM.
Rejecting allegations of dipping law and order situation, the CM ``The BSP has nothing to do with law and order. Their sole interest is to draw political mileage from unfortunate incidents that took place in the recent past.’’
Rejecting the charge that the SP was hand in glove with the BJP, the CM said, ``The BSP formed the government with support from the BJP thrice. Mayawati had campaigned for the then Gujarat CM Narendra Modi in 2003 and she had rakhi brothers in the BJP.’’
Asking the BSP leader to ready for the 2017 Assembly polls, Yadav suggested, ``Do not join hands with the BJP. Contest the next polls with all your might.’’
Claiming that many leaders want to join the SP, the CM said, “We have firmly shut the doors of our party. There is a long list of BSP and BJP leaders who are desperate to join the Samajwadi Party.’’
