Nalco launches signature drive for Rio team
Bhubaneswar: Aluminium major Nalco has started a signature campaign extending best wishes to the Indian contingent for Rio Olympics, including six girls from Odisha. Congratulating athletes Dutee Chand and Srabani Nanda and hockey players Deep Grace Ekka, Namita Toppo, lilima Minz and Sunita lakra, Nalco CMD Dr Tapan Kumar Chand said the people of Odisha are proud of these participants and wished them all success.
ECoR Rail Auditorium inaugurated
Bhubaneswar: East Coast Railway General Manager Rajiv Vishnoi inaugurated a Rail Auditorium near the ECoR headquarters on Saturday. This is a large, modern auditorium with state-of-the art facilities and has a seating capacity of 1,125. ECoR Chief Administrative Officer (Construction) SB Ninawe was present on the occasion.
Woman shot dead by husband in Jharsuguda
Jharsuguda: A woman was allegedly shot dead by her husband over family dispute at Puruna Basti in Jharsuguda town on Friday night. According to reports, Dilip Sahoo and his wife Bindu had an exchange of words while having dinner. In a feat of rage, Dilip opened one round of fire at his wife. A police complaint was lodged against Dilip by Bondu’s family members. Police have detained Dilip and seized the gun. Dilip had earlier gone to jail several times in various criminal cases, sources said.

Bhubaneswar: A two-day-long training programme for the heads of DAV Schools under the Regional Directorate, DAV Institutions, Odisha Zone-I in order to empower them with the latest teaching pedagogy and school administration was held here.
Stone for recreational park laid at Baleswar
Baleswar: Foundation-stone for a recreational park at Badkhua (Ward-2) of the Baleswar Municipality under the AMRUT Yojana was laid on Saturday. The park would be developed at an estimated cost of Rs1.20 crore. A rest shelter near the FM College and a vending zone near the ITI were also inaugurated Baleswar MP RK Jena, Sadar MlA JP Dash and Municipality Chairman Alok Sahu were present.
MRI machine at VIMSAR inaugurated
Sambalpur: Sambalpur MlA Dr Raseswari Panigrahi, who was professor-cum-HoD of the Gynaecology department of the VSS Medical College, inaugurated an MRI machine at the VIMSAR, Burla on Saturday. Dr Panigrahi said a longstanding demand of the people of the region has been fulfilled with functioning of the MRI machine. “The machine has been installed at a cost of Rs 6.5 crore.”
Int’l Tiger Day observed in Balangir
Balangir: Balangir Forest Division observed the International Tiger Day here on Friday. ACF Goutam Naik, ACF NK Jaisingh and journalist Sudhir Mishra spoke on different aspects of tiger conservation in India. They stressed on the need for a concerted effort by the people to save tigers from different threats.
FIITJEE students shine in NTSE Stage-II
Bhubaneswar: Students of the FIITJEE Odisha Centers have showed excellent performances in the NTSE Stage-II, the results of which were published recently. Thirty three of the total 46 students, who have passed the national-level exam, belong to the FIITJEE institute. The NTSE examination is a high profile science competition for young children in Class-X. FIITJEE Bhubaneswar Centre Head Ranajoy Bardhan said, “At FIITJEE, we prepare our students to be focused towards their studies to make a niche in this era of cut throat competition.”
