The Kapu caste politics in Andhra Pradesh was once again heating up. Mudragada Padmanabham, the most prominent face of Kapu caste in Andhra region met filmstar-turned-politician Chiranjeevi in Hyderabad on Monday to discuss the future course of action. Chiranjeevi too belongs to the Kapu community, which is demanding inclusion in the backward class list and reservation quota.
The meeting took place in the backdrop of reports that Padmanabham was planning to revive his stir for reservation quota. His agitation in January had turned violent as the mob had set a train on fire. later, he along with his wife went on an indefinite fast forcing the Chandrababu Naidu Government to agree to his demand and set up a committee to look in to the issue.
But now frustrated over lack of any action by the Government, Mudragada has started planning a fresh agitation by involving the Kapu leaders from different political parties.
Apart from discussing the matter with Chiranjeevi, who was lying in low politics for the last two years, Padmanabham was also scheduled to meet the prominent film producer and Congress leader Dasari Narayana Rao and other leaders of Kapu Sangham. Chiranjeevi, who remains in Congress and presently busy with the shooting of his 150th film, was under pressure from his community to support the stir.
Padmanabham said that all the leader of Kapu community will meet on September 11 at Rajahmahendravaram to chalk out the future course of action. “The Government has time till the end of this month to announce reservation for the Kapu community. Otherwise we will go ahead with our next move”, he said.
Meanwhile, Chiranjeevi’s brother and popular filmstar Pavan Kalyan created a stir by openly criticising both the BJP and the Telugu Desam party on the issue of special category status to Andhra Pradesh.
