Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Saturday finalised `6,000 crore projects regarding water supply, sewerage, street lights, roads, STPs to ensure availability of all basic amenities in all areas of the State.
Meeting the Chief Executive Officers, vice-presidents and representatives of various companies working in the field of civic amenities, Badal said the project should be completed within next one and half year.
He stressed that it should be ensured that all amenities are made available and operational on 10 years maintenance basis by December 2016. Badal said the project envisions complete water supply, sewerage, solid waste management, sewerage treatment plants, street lights, water supply and sewerage connections to each house.
The Deputy CM said the State had floated tenders for Amritsar and Bathinda with world class sewerage treatment plants. He said the same would be replicated in the remaining parts of the State.
Badal said that he would personally review the progress and operations, once the tenders have been floated and successful bidders would look after the maintenance of project for 10 years. He also maintained that the project would be awarded to companies on turnkey basis to ensure the smooth flow of civic services.
The Deputy CM asked Chief Secretary Sarvesh Kaushal and Principal Secretary local Bodies Ashok Gupta to ensure the pre-qualify bid system so that only technically, physically and financially professional companies could be chosen for tenders. He said after one and half year Punjab would have all basic amenities in urban as well as rural areas.
Badal said Punjab was also contemplating to award the companies with an attractive incentive for completion of projects within stipulated time. He also asked Principal Secretary local Bodies to come with a detailed chart in this regard so that needful could be done.
