With the issue of land acquisition becoming a political hot potato in the country, Punjab Government on Saturday tried to assuage the sentiments of the farmers by constituting district-wise committees for the acquisition or purchase of land. This committee would negotiate with the private land owners regarding price of land.
A spokesman of Punjab Government said these committees would be headed by the Deputy Commissioner of the districts concerned. The other members of committees would have Chief Engineer, SDM, Superintendent engineer of PWD and XEN of Public Works Department concerned as members.
The spokesman said that in case the compensation by private negotiations is more that the compensation that would be paid under the provisions of the Act, then the Chief engineer concerned would send the case with full justification of compensation to the Government for approval.
