The farmers under the aegis of Akhil Bharatiya Kisan Mahasabha staged protest against the land Acquisition Ordinance of the Narendra Modi government and threatened to intensify the stir till the ordinance is repealed. The farmers from across the state staged protest infront of their respective district headquarters of all the district and burnt the copies of ordinance.
The farmers also requested President of India Pranab Mukharjee to withdraw the land acquisition ordinance and requested him not to allow any amendments in the land acquisition act 2013. National General Secretary of the Kisan Mahasabha, Atul Kumar Anjaan told thousands of farmers in Mathura that that thousands of farmers had sacrificed their lives to withdraw the 1894 land Acquisition Act enacted by the Britishers.
“The farmers will do the same but will not allow any change in the land acquisition act. The only asset farmers have is their land. They will not part with it just for few rupees. The new land acquisition act is faulty and against farmers interest,” he said. Anjan said that, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government has paved the way for capitalists to acquire the land and set up their industrial hubs on the farmlands. The farmers will continue their protests till the ordinance is withdran, he said. In Varanasi, the protest was led by Dr Jayshankar Singh.
