The Adityapur-based National Institute of Technology ( NIT) is on expansion mode and giving an infrastructure boost. The tech cradle, which functions under the Union HRD Ministry has laid the foundation for a mega mess on its campus, which will cater to 1,500 students of the newly constructed two hostels ( J and K- name of hostels). The new hostels with single rooms will be able accommodate 1,500 students. The new hostels are seven-storey buildings.

NIT spokesperson Rajiv Bhushan said that the  mess will be first-of-its-kind in any educational institution in the state. “ It is our ambitious project and we are looking forward to make it success.  As per our plans initially it will function on the ground floor. later three more floors will be added to the mega mess. It would take nine months for completing the construction work of the mess,” he noted.

The tech college already has a mess which caters to less number of students. The new mega mess will be air-conditioned with all modern amenities. It will be spacious and have adequate sitting arrangements for the students.

Bhushan said that the mess will cater to the students belonging to various streams of engineering in B.Tech , M. Tech and MCA ( Masters in Computer Application ) courses.

Meanwhile, NIT director, Rambabu Kodali , who laid the foundation stone of the mega mess and took part in a ‘ Bhumi Pujan ‘ ceremony said, “ We want to provide world class facilities to our students and we are taking every step in this direction. We have developed a road map for the development of  NIT. It includes  best practices for academic excellence, better governance, development of digital campus, development of new infrastructure and renovation of existing infrastructures. “

The institute is working on plan of setting up of new hostels for the students, construction of roads, renovation of administrative building and setting up a new gymkhana. Moreover, qualified and experienced teachers from the university departments and other engineering colleges will be invited to interact with the students.

“We are confident that we can take this institution to a model level by upgrading it. We will give a major facelift to it by making necessary interventions,” noted an official.

Notably, NIT (erstwhile Regional Institute of Technology) is one of the eight regional engineering institutes established in the country in the year 1960. The Institute was fully taken over by the Central Government on April 1, 2003 and renamed National Institute of Technology.
