Unidentified criminals struck terror in Bareilly when they brutally murdered a senior scientist of the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) at his residence late on Wednesday night.
The miscreants who tied victim’s old age mother and his domestic maid, also swept costly belongings which puzzled the police whether the case was simple loot and murder or the belonging were removed to misguide the investigation agencies. What further puzzled the cops is that the circumstantial evidence suggested that the criminals were known to the victim so the senior officers claimed to be working on all the aspects which included some property or official dispute of the victim. The cops were also waiting for the victim’s wife to return from her parent’s house to confirm whether some documents were also looted by the criminals.
Talking to local media persons in Bareilly on Thursday morning, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Bareilly, Dharamveer Singh said that Dr Deepak Sharma (55) head of the of Animal Genetic division in IVRI was murdered by some criminals on Wednesday night. The criminals also decamped with valuables of the house after killing the scientist. He said that at the time of the incident the mother of the scientist was in the house situated in the IVRI residential colony in Izzatnagar area while his wife was away to her parent’s house in Vrindawan.
According to the domestic help Deepa, some people knocked the doors of the house of Dr Sharma at around 9pm on Wednesday and they were taken inside by the deceased. But later other people accompanying them tied Deepa and the scientist’s mother Pushpa with ropes. later when the criminals left, Deepa shouted after which her husband came running from the servant’s quarter. When they rushed to the scientist room, he was found murdered with some sharp-edged weapon probably a scissor. However, police was suspecting the role of the maid servant and her family and police was interrogating them. The SSP said it seems that the people who entered the house were well-known to the scientist and police was investigating the entire matter.
