Jharkhand a place for all communities, stresses CM Das

Monday, 21 September 2015 | PNS | Ranchi

Amid heightened talks about domicile policy for the State in the light of recruitments being made, Chief Minister Raghubar Das said that injustice would not be done to any community. Addressing a conference of Sadans i.e. non-tribal original residents of Jharkhand on Sunday the Chief Minister also counted on his priorities for the all round development of the State.

"Jharkhand does not belong to a single community, but to all of its citizens. We wish that all communities, religious and otherwise, coexist with harmony. Contribution from every section of the society is imperative for the development of State and State Government is sensitive towards their development," said Das.

Talking about the recent projects implemented for bettering employment scenario, he added that soon the youth in the State can be benefited from the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana for setting small enterprises and the state would also benefit from rise in ease of doing business ranking and implementation of single-window system.

"Development and prosperity of the State can be ensured only by an education-based society. Social organisations should extend their reach to remote villages to skill the youth there, making them fit not only for jobs but self-employment. Skill development in children from a very young age needs to be promoted for making them as skilled as people from any part of the world," CM said.

Moreover members of Sanyukt Sadan Sangharsh Morcha expressed anguish over being left out from the reservation scenario and demanded increase in number of State Assembly seats.

"The number of seats in State Assembly should be increased to 160 so that every community gets equal representation, based on population, in the electoral process. This will also pave the way for formation of legislative Council in the state," Morcha president Rajendra Prasad while addressing the gathering.

He added, "Despite representing 65 per cent of state's population, non-tribal natives of Jharkhand find it hard to contribute to the political system of the state. Electoral constituencies populated by non-tribals are reserved for tribal candidates. Sadan agar MP, MlA, Mukhiya nahi ban sakta to sirf vote dene liye bana hai kyaIJ (If non-tribals cannot attain offices of political significance then are they just vote banksIJ)".

Speakers strongly demanded that reservation of electoral constituencies in Assembly and Panchayat elections should be done on basis of the region's population, so that contestants representing majority of the community gets to enter into office.

"It has been mandated that areas only where tribal communities constitute more than can be declared Scheduled Areas, but this is not being followed in the state. Benefits of reservation system are not reaching those who need it. This has to change with immediate effect," Prasad said.

Some aggressive speakers even suggested that a movement akin to Gujarat Patidar reservation agitation should be instigated by sadans, but these notions were rebuffed almost immediately.

"We are not against any particular community. Both tribals and non-tribals are natives to Jharkhand and both realise each other's grievances," Prasad stated.
