Stressing on streamlining of traffic Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said that city commuters are facing problems because city roads are choc-a-bloc with vehicles of different shape and size leading to jam. “It is important that traffic moves in a disciplined way and people follow traffic rule. This will not only give relief to the pedestrians but also to the motorists. The systematic flow of traffic will also make traveling enjoyable,” Yadav said during a function where students of a private university presented model of city traffic on Gomti river here on Tuesday. He said that cities like lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Agra and Meerut have very dis-orderly traffic. Government has taken many steps to improve traffic flow in these cities but the result has not been that satisfactory. “The lucknow city has expanded very fast. The government has introduced projects to improve infrastructure of the city. New overbridges have been constructed. At many places roads have been widened. Government has also introduced metro service and result of it would be visible within a year and a half,” Chief Minister said. In their presentation the students said that Gomti divides lucknow into two parts. If the river is used as a mode of transport it would not only save time but precious fossil fuel. The students claimed that over 300 buses, 17,000 auto rickshaws and 12 lakh private vehicles ply on city roads. CM assured that students that he would ask the officials to analyse the presentation and if possible it would be implemented.
