Haryana CM takes measures to check onion prices

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar lal on Friday directed Hafed to place an indent with National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (Nafed) for the purchase of 1000 metric tonnes of onions at a rate not exceeding Rs30 per kilogram.
 
An official spokesman said that the Chief Minister has also approved a number of decisions to check the increasing prices of onions and regarding its import.
 He said that it has been decided that onions would be distributed at the rate of Rs 35 per kilogram through Hafed co-operative societies and Milk booths of Dairy Development Department.
 
 The stock limit for onion would be imposed immediately after taking prior approval from Government of India. It has also been decided that Hafed would create a Price Stabilization Fund (PSF) to control the increase in prices of Essential Commodities for which the Government of India (GOI) has created a Corpus fund of `500 crore, said the spokesperson.
 
 He added that the economic advisor, Union Ministry of Consumer Affair, Food and Public Distribution, Department of Food and Public Distribution, New Delhi has intimated that the Government of India is also planning to import 10,000 Metric Tonnes of onion through Nafed to improve domestic availability and manage the rise prices of onion.
