The candidates who were busy campaigning for the by-polls for Pharenda Assembly segment of Maharajganj district received a set-back when the Apex Court once again stopped the process, on Monday.According to an official communiqué of additional chief election officer of the State, Ramakant Pandey, issued on Monday evening, the Supreme Court, which earlier paved way for the by-polls as per schedule had once again stopped the process so the polling would now remain suspended till further orders. Now, the by-election would only take place in Charkhari Assembly segment as per schedule on April 11.
Earlier, on move of the Election Commission, Apex Court had stayed the orders of the High Court, on last Monday. High Court had stayed the election process on a writ filed by Bajrang Bhadhur Singh, who was disqualified as MlA from the said seat in wake of an enquiry conducted by lokayukata, Justice (retd) NK Mehrotra. Election Commission had filed a SlP against the HC’s decision and on last Monday, the Apex Court had stayed the lower court’s order.
