Frequent traffic snarls witnessed daily at Khajuri Chowk intersection will become a thing of past as the flyover at junction was thrown open for traffic on Saturday.
The bridge in northeast Delhi is part of the eastern approaches of the Wazirabad Signature Bridge project. The flyover will end near Wazirabad and will help decongest the intersection and easing traffic movement between Bhajanpura, Yamuna Vihar, loni, Sonia Vihar and Sahibabad towards Wazirabad. The project is delayed by over a year as it was to be ready by November 2012.
The eastern approaches being constructed near Bhajanpura comprise a 1.8-km -long embankment to connect the main bridge with Marginal Bund Road at Khajuri Khas intersection. The western approach of the bridge, which comprises a flyover, was opened to traffic in 2012 and allows for signal-free movement over intersections at Timarpur, Nehru Vihar and Wazirabad.
An official from Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation limited (DTTDC) said that the foundation work of Signature Bridge is also almost complete and the entire project is likely to be completed by 2014-end.
