Students flock city colleges for Intermediate admissions

With the declaration of Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) matriculation results on April 29, admissions for intermediate are in full swing at city colleges. At one hand colleges are yet to declare cut-off marks for shortlisting candidates on the basis of marks obtained in matriculation and on the other parents are making it sure to avail the forms to avoid the last minute rush.

The last date for form submission of forms in prominent colleges like St Xavier’s College, Marwari College, Ranchi Women’s College, Nirmala College and St Paul’s College is May 26, May 24, June 7, June 5 and May 24 respectively. 

Forms for Intermediate Arts (IA), Intermediate Science (ISc) and Intermediate Commerce (ICom) are available between Rs 300 and Rs 500 in all the colleges. However, like every year students can also apply online at the website of St Xavier’s College.

“The entrance examination for intermediate courses will be held on June 5. We preferably consider only the first division holders but are taking the forms of second division holders as well,” said St Xavier’s College Hindi department Professor Kamal Bose. The merit list of the mentioned colleges will be released by the mid of June. Website of Ranchi Women’s College mentions that selected students from this merit list can take admission till June 30.

A seat limit of around 600 students in all the three streams is fixed at Nirmala College and St Xavier’s College. In St Paul’s College and Ranchi Women’s College it is 512 and 640 seats for the three streams.

Marwari College Principal Ranjit Singh said that they will be admitting second division scorers as well. “We have a batch limit of 720 students for each stream and will definitely enroll students who have secured around 50 percent marks at matric level,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ursuline Inter College whose girls were the top three rank holders in the ICom 2014 result declared by JAC on May 10 will begin the admissions from Friday. “We have a seat limit of 896 girls in all the three streams. The last day of form submission is not yet decided as the results of CBSE and ICSE class tenth have not been declared. The forms are available from the college counter at Rs 200,” said an administrative officer of the college.

Gossner College is expected to start the form sale from May 17. A Professor of the college said, “Each of our subject streams has a seat limit of 640 students.”
