Self-help groups benefit from Balco scheme

At least seven self-help groups have received goods and equipments worth  more than a lakh rupees from Bharat Aluminium Company limited (Balco) for their economic activities, the company said on Saturday.

The water shed programmes under the aegis of Balco and NABARD disbursed goods, equipments and other items amounting to more than `1,05,000 to the self help groups on June 3 at Rugbehri village in a special programme.

People were given tents, pumps and equipments and fodders for poultry farming. Goats and machines to make leaf plates were also given to them, the company said in a statement. While ‘Jai Maa laxmi’ self-help group from Rugbehri got tent, ‘Jai Maa Vaishno  Devi’ group of the same village got pump. Similarly ‘Saraswati’ self-help group of Parsakhola village got pump set for vegetable production. ‘Sri Ganesh’ self-help group and Jaiguru Ghasidas of village Bhatgaon got goats. Chanda Mahila self-help group got chickens. ‘Sarva Mangala’ self-help group got the leaf plate making machine.

The community development assistant general manager of BAlCO Ashish Ranjan, said his company is committed towards community development of the nearby area and its citizen to provide better health, nutrition, education and livelihood opportunities.He also said the watershed programme of Balco-Nabard has helped to create women self groups and strengthened them. Congratulating the gathering and wishing progressive growths of the community, Ranjan said the initiatives will help the groups to expedite their commercial activities.

Nabarad district development manager VG Chandekar said the water shed programme will help the entire area for an inclusive growth and to help women join and empower them is one such activity.

He advised the group to work as cohesive force and do regular meeting and focus on saving money. Dixon Mashi head of the non-government organisation Strot which is also a delivery partner of the programme attributed the success to the villagers. He said such type of programmes will succeed only when committed citizens take appropriate participation. He also thanked BAlCO, NABARD, self help groups and villagers to work diligently.
