Patient count rises in Doon Hospital

The number of patients in the Doon hospital here is rising with the rise of mercury. The hospital is witnessing a record number of patients these days due to which large queues are being witnessed at the Out Patient Departments (OPDs) of the hospital. Doon Hospital which is the biggest Government hospital of the State is under severe pressure of the patients these days. Huge surge of patients could be seen both in OPD and the counters of medicines. On Tuesday more than 2,300 new patients registered themselves in the hospital.

The hospital caters not only the people of Uttarakhand but serves people from neighbouring Uttar Pradesh. The hospital authorities in hushed tones blame the flow of patients from Saharanpur district and other areas of Uttar Pradesh as the cause of heavy rush. Shariq Ahmed a resident of Saharanpur district said that the people of his area prefer Dehradun due to its proximity and better availability of free medicines. The Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) of Doon Hospital Dr R S Aswal told The Pioneer that with advent of summers the cases of viral infections increase. He said the doctors at OPDs are catering about 4000 patients daily and one doctors checks 125 patients on an average these days. He said that hospital staff has been told to keep their calm and manage the surge of patients and serve them properly.
