The election of new office-bearers of the Ganjam Bar Association would be held on March 7, said election officer Pradeep Panda.
After receipt of an updated list of the bar members, the exact date of election would be notified. The process of election would start in two to three days with submission of nominations by the interested members. As per the tentative programme, nominations would be scrutinised on February 20, followed by withdrawal of nominations next day.
The voting would be held on March 7th from 10 AM to 4 PM. Counting of votes and declaration of results would be on March 7 and the office-bearers would take oath on March 11. As per the association’s rules, a member for the post of president must have 30 years of experience as a practising lawyer. For the vice-president post, 25 years of legal practice and for the secretary post 20 years for practice is mandatory.
Sources said veteran student leader of 1960s, senior advocate and trade union leader Basanta Kumar Panda is likely to contest for the post of president along with two others.
