Dehradun police claimed to have solved the murder of a 40-year-old woman Geeta who was found dead inside a house in the Cantt police station area where she was working as house maid on April 15.
Police arrested Kankhal resident Vikas Sharma who was brother of the home owner Sanjay Sharma where Geeta was working as a domestic help, said Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Rautela while interacting with media persons on Tuesday. The accused was arrested from ISBT, Dehradun on Tuesday, he added.
In his complaint, deceased Geeta’s husband Shiv Prasad, resident of Sanjay Colony stated that his wife was working in the house of Sanjay Sharma, officer in an oil company at Abu Dhabi and resident of Kishan Nagar, Bindal Chowki under Cantt police station area. Sanjay Sharma’s wife Parul Sharma and daughter were living here.
On April 15, Sanjay Sharma’s daughter phoned him and told about his wife’s murder at home in broad daylight. Then he informed the police and body was sent for postmortem examination.
SSP said that taking cognisance of this, a case was registered under section 302 of IPC against unidentified persons in Cantt police Station. After investigation, the police arrested Vikas Sharma from ISBT. During interrogation, the accused confessed his offence and said that he had gone to his brother’s home on April 15 where Geeta was alone and completing household chores. She resisted when Vikas tried to molest her. Failing in his attempt, he strangulated her with her dupattah. The accused somehow managed to escape from the scene after committing the murder. Dehradun SSP has announced reward for the police team for solving this case.
