Demanding redressal of pending issues like provision of medical facilities to teachers, implementation of University Grants Commission's directives related to teachers' welfare, teachers' representation at the level of administration, directorate, the State Government among other demands, around half of the total DAV (PG) College teaching staff led by College Teachers' Union president SP Mittal boycotted work and staged a demonstration on campus on Wednesday.
It appears as if teachers in the DAV (PG) College are exerting pressure for removal of biometric system implemented by the college principal on trial basis from Wednesday. The teachers are raising the other issues because they cannot oppose the biometric system in principle. Moreover, DBS (PG) College teaching staff also staged a demonstration in the college campus in support of these demands.
Instead of reaching their departments, teachers of both the colleges reached the protest site and demonstrated under the banner of Federation of Uttarakhand University Colleges Teacher's Association (FUUCTA) and HNB Garhwal Central University Teacher's Association (GUPA).later Rajpur Road MlA Rand parliamentary secretary Rajkumar reached the protest site in DAV (PG) College and supported their demands. A delegation of teachers led by Rajkumar met the Higher Education secretary Manisha Panwar and apprised her about their demands.
Sources revealed that Panwar said that in compliance with High Court order, all the teachers will have to give their attendance twice a day in the college. The Government may consider replacing biometric system with a register but all the teachers will have to mark their attendance twice a day on the register as the details will be submitted in the High Court periodically.
