The plummeting temperature has triggered several diseases to infant these days. Winter diarrhoea and pneumonia are some of the common diseases which are very frequent in toddlers especially in this wintery weather.

Winter diarrhoea is generally caused due to a virus named Rotavirus which is quite active in winter season. Mild fever, vomiting and watery diarrhea are some of the common affect caused due to rotavirus. However, pneumonia in children is caused by viruses and bacteria. Fast breathing along with cough are some  common symptoms of pneumonia in children. In severe cases breathing related problems also generates in kids which is followed by chest pain.

Child Specialist at Doon Hospital, Dr JP Devshali revealed that the percentage of Pneumonia patients just doubles during the winter season. Generally in normal days around 4-5 toddler patients visit Doon hospital with a complaint of winter diarrhea while during winters the number of cases reaches to 8-10. While the cases of pneumonia patients is 5-7 on regular days but it exceeds to 10-15 in winter season, he said.

Extra precaution is required for children to keep the disease Pneumonia away. One should try to keep the body warm with woolen clothes. At least three layers of woolen clothes must be worn during this chilling cold. The second layer of woolen clothes acts as an insulator which prevents the cold breeze to enter the body, stressed Devshali.

He said that when a person don’t wear enough warm clothes, extra energy of the body is utilized to fight from the cold, which disturb the immunity of the body therefore causes these diseases. One must keep a watch on the food intake as.  Contaminated and junk foods must be avoided to prevent these diseases and the intake of water should also be increased.
