Altogether 118 candidates are in the fray for 11 assembly by-elections and 12 contestants for Mainpuri lok Sabha by-polls in the state where polling is slated on September 13. A total of 149 candidates filed their nominations for the 11 assembly seats of which 25 papers were rejected during scrutiny and 6 withdrew their nominations.
In Mainpuri lok Sabha seat 14 candidates filed their nominations of which papers of two were rejected during scrutiny. Saturday was the last day for withdrawals of the nomination papers. State election office sources confirmed here on Saturday that highest of 16 candidates are in the fray from Rohaniya Assembly seat, which is the part of the assembly segement of Varanasi lok Sabha seat, represented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
lucknow(East) and Sirathu assembly seats will have 15 candidates each while Noida seat will have 12 candidates in the fray. Hamirpur and Thakurdwara assembly seats would have 11 candidates each while Saharanpur Nagar and Bijnore assembly seats will have 10 candidates each. The lowest of 5 candidates are in the fray from Balha assembly seat while six candidates are in the fry from Charkhari assembly seat and 7 contestants from Nighasan assembly seat. The assembly by-elections were held as the members were elected to the lok Sabha.
Mainpuri lS by-election is being held after Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav left the seat after being elected from both Mainpuri and Azamgarh seats.
