Army Chief General Bikram Singh on Wednesday stressed the need for synergy between the three Services to fight modern day war and called for pooling of all national resources to face any threat. IAF chief Arup Raha also aired similar views and called for jointness in operations for achieving military objectives.
Making this point here while addressing the Navy Commanders’ Conference in his capacity as Chairman Chiefs of Staff Committee, Singh said synergy formed part of grand strategy. It encompasses all aspects of statecraft including economic and diplomatic strategy besides emerging challenge posed by cyber warfare.
Besides these overarching issues, the Army chief also dwelled on challenges faced by India in its immediate strategic neighbourhood and operational preparedness of the armed forces to counter them.
The four-day conference held twice a year was inaugurated by Defence Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday in which he was apprised of slow pace of acquisition of weapon systems. The Minister assured the Armed Forces that funds will not be a constraint in maintaining the momentum of modernisation.
The top Navy brass also discussed ways of strengthening the tri-services Andaman and Nicobar Command besides maintenance of the Navy’s aging fleet, security and safety of warships and development of major infrastructure projects.
