Students held for cheating in exams with mobile phones

Monday, 30 September 2013 | PNS | DEHRADUN

Dehradun police arrested six students including two women who were caught copying with the help of mobile phones and blue-tooth in the Staff Selection Commission examination at two different examination centres here on Sunday.

Police also arrested a student who was caught helping these students with the help of mobile phone and blue-tooth during examination from outside the centre. These students are natives of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. Kotwali police station in-charge J Singh said that these students were being interrogated and they will be booked under appropriate sections of IPC.

It may be mentioned here that Dehradun police had arrested 17 candidates including a girl caught indulging in unfair practices in Uttarakhand Ayush Pre-Medical Test and the examination for labourer posts in the Ordnance Factory, Raipur on September 22, when their face did not match the face of the youth given on the admit card. Police are not ruling out involvement of a nexus in this case but they have yet to make any kind of headway in the case.

Police received a tip off about some examinees attempting to copy with the help of mobile phone and blue tooth during SSC examination at the examination centres in the State capital. Acting on this tip off, the police had informed examination centre heads and directed them to be vigilant. Following this, examinees were frisked at the gate.

Despite this, such incident came to light in the SGRR Inter College, Khurbura when the examiner noticed two examinees using blue tooth during the exam. They were frisked and a mobile phone was found concealed by them. They were handed over to the police. The other students indulging in unfair practices were caught at other examination centres in the city.

The examiner suspected these students of using a mobile phone. Students were questioned, initially they denied but when they were frisked the mobile phones were found. During interrogation, the students confessed to their offence and said that they had paid Rs lakh to middleman for this and middleman had instructed them to follow instructions while sitting in the examination centre.

Interrogation of these students was on while this report was being filed. It may be mentioned here that around 3000 students appeared in the SSC examination held at different examination centres in Dehradun on Sunday.
