Ahead of the lok Sabha polls, Punjab Government is all set to woo the people of the State by doubling the beneficiaries under its game changer Atta-Dal Scheme.
Relaunching its ambitious scheme by the name of New Atta-Dal Scheme on December 1, the State Government would provide wheat at `1 per kilo and pulses at `20 per kilo to about 30 lakh blue card holders in the State. Initially, the Atta-Dal Scheme was launched in 2007 by the SAD-BJP Government after coming to power.
“Punjab Government has winded the ambit of the present Atta-Dal Scheme which would be implemented in two phases…All present beneficiaries’ families, including the below poverty line (BPl) and Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) ration card holders, would be eligible for this Scheme,” said a Government spokesperson.
He said that Punjab Government has decided to double the number of BPl card holders for which selection survey has been launched. “To empower women in the society, women would be nominated as head of the family in the new blue cards,” he added.
Families having annual income less than `60,000 and land less than 2.5 acres and all 100 yard plot holders in the urban areas would be eligible to new blue cards and avail the benefits of new scheme.
Pensioners receiving annual pension less than `60,000 would also be eligible for blue cards. Beneficiaries would submit a self-attested statement that they are not paying any type of tax to the Government.
