Punjab Government will spend Rs 15 crore in 2013-14 under the post-matric scholarship scheme for Government school students securing over 80 per cent marks in matriculation examinations.
This was decided in a high-level meeting held on Wednesday by senior officials of Higher Education Department reviewing the implementation of various scholarship schemes in the State.
The State Government is concerned with imparting quality higher education through all the Government and private educational institutions in the State, the Chief Parliamentary Secretary (Higher Education) Avinash Chander said, adding that the Government will also ensure regular disbursement of post-matric scholarship to eligible students.
Punjab Government had launched the prestigious Dr Hargobind Khurana Post-Matric Scholarship scheme for meritorious students of all Government and Adarsh schools run by Punjab School Education Board (PSEB).
Students who secure 80 per cent or more marks would be eligible for this scholarship upto senior secondary level and a sum of Rs 30,000 per annum would be disbursed to them through e-transfer to their bank accounts on monthly basis, he said.
