Tuesday, 31 December 2013 | Ekta Bisht | DEHRADUN

Patients admitted in the Doon hospital are facing inconvenience due to nurses' strike in the hospital as they are not getting treatment on time which is risky for their health. To boycott evening and night shift duties, nurses have decided to work only in day shift from Monday.

A patient BM Bangwal admitted in the hospital from past four days said that the need of nurses are generally at the night time and if nurses will not work during night, who will take care of the patients in case of emergency.

This is the main problem for those patients who are serious and need nurse every time for watching drip or for vaccination. He also said that behaviour of the nurses is also not good as they don't care patients properly. Even in day shift nurses are not performing their duty seriously.

Another patient Rahul, who is admitted in general ward of Doon hospital, said that it has become routine of doctors or nurses to go on strike and no one serious about their duty.

He asked that what will a patient does in case of emergency without nurse. Nurses are attending day shift and refused working in night but nurses requirement get double during night shift in place of day shift, he added.

He said that government hospitals are meant for middle class and poor people who can't afford private clinics or hospitals, but due to this strike, doctors and nurses are playing with patients' lives.

Another patient Hari Kishore said that the nurses are mainly needed during the night time as there are various problems which can be solved by a professional only.

He also said that patients who are coming from outside Dehradun are facing more inconvenience due to daily strike as they are not getting treatment on time and due to this they are becoming more sick and weak. The hospital department will only perform their work properly unless & until some serious tragedy happens, Kishore added.

Vijayata another patient said that the work of the nurses is to take care of the patients and for that only they were appointed in the hospitals but now as they are on strike it is not good for the patients who are admitted in the hospital.

She also said that patients have to survive during emergency which can also results in some kind of misfortune.

Prem Pratap Singh a local resident said that my wife is admitted in the hospital and if the nurses will not work at night, who will take care of the patients at the time of some emergencyIJ

Everyday different departments in hospitals are going on strike one by one which is becoming a major issue for the patients. Employees in government Hospital now don't want to work that is why they are generating different issues daily, Singh added.
