Questioning the state Government’s decision to raze the relief camps set up in Muzaffarnagar and Shamli districts for riot victims, Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati said the Samajwadi Party regime had failed to live up to the expectations of the people, who were now looking for a change.
“What happened in Muzaffarnagar and Shamli was shameful. But what is happening now is a disgrace to humanity. The camps of the riot victims are being razed and the victims are now forced to live in the open in this biting cold. This shows the insensitivity of the state Government,” Mayawati said while addressing BSP office-bearers here on Monday.
The BSP supremo had called a meeting of senior party office-bearers, including parliamentarians and legislators, to discuss the proposed ‘Savdhan Rally of the party, to be held in the state capital on January 15. She discussed the prevailing situation in the state and also gave directives to the party workers.
“The situation was so bad in the relief camps that court, Minority Commission and National Human Rights Commission had to intervene and ask the state Government about the steps it had taken to provide relief to the people living there,” Mayawati said.
The BSP chief said that law and order in the state was already bad and the way Akhilesh Yadav Government had tackled the Muzaffarnagar riots and post-riot situation had proved without doubt that this Government was not concerned about people at all.
Incidentally, when Mayawati was raising questions on the relief camps, the Centre asked the Uttar Pradesh Government about the number of deaths of children in the relief camps at Muzaffarnagar and Shamli.
“The Muzaffarnagar riot was a well-hatched plan of Samajwadi Party and Bharatiya Janata Party as both of them are using religion for their political gains. Both the parties plan to use the situation arising out of the riots in the coming lok Sabha elections,” she said.
Mayawati asked her party leaders to gear up for the Savdhan Rally on January 15. She set targets for BSP leaders and legislators.
The party expects over 15 lakh people to attend the rally to be held at Rama Bai Maidan on the outskirts of the city. “Ensure a large attendance of people in the meeting. Go to every village, tehsil and block and meet the people and motivate them to attend the rally,” Mayawati told the party workers.
According to BSP leaders, target has been fixed for each legislator and parliamentarian. They have been asked to bring at least 5,000 people to the rally from each Assembly constituency.
BSP state president Ram Achal Rajbhar is touring across the state to take stock of the situation.
