The Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE) declared the class 10th results with the cumulative grade point average (CGPA) system for the fourth consecutive year. Around 4000 students had appeared for the class Xth examinations this year.
In majority of the schools both boys and girls performed equally well. The highest scorer were students of DAV Public School, Bistupur where 31 pupils achieved 10 CGPA.
The CGPA grading is done within a band of 10, which means students who scored anything between 91 to 100 received an A1 grade, with a grade point of 10. This was followed by A2 which consisted of marks between 81 and 90 with a grade point of 9.
“We have produced 26 students out of 152 students, with a CGPA of 10 (10 pointers). The credit goes to the teachers and the students who have worked hard throughout the year to make this happen. It is quite clear that now the
students have fully understood the concept of CCE and have learnt to use it to their advantage. By introducing CCE the main aim of CBSE is to reduce the stress among students as well as to develop the students holistically, and seeing the result this year we are confident that we are moving in the right direction,” said Namita Agrawal, principal of Jamshedpur Public School.
" Students are happy to do away with mad race for marks. We are really happy to note that students and even parents are getting used to the grading system gradually. There are more number of students in our school who has received 10 CGPAs this time. The performance of students have improved this year," said Vipin Sharma, principal, Vidya Bharati Chinmaya Vidyalaya.
Though the board has decided to do away with the marks race but despite all efforts parents and students were busy trying to compare their performances with their counterparts which merely persists to shoe off their respective grades among the peers.
Principals are happy with the results stating that the grading system has made students more relaxed now. “The grading system is not as complicated as I had feared. One can easily get an idea of his or her percentage,” said a student.
