With the arrest of two people, Punjab Police recovered two kg heroin valued Rs 10 crore in the international market. Deputy Singh and Gursahib Singh, both hailing from Tarn Taran district, were arrested in Faridkot district.
While Gursahib Singh was arrested on Sunday, Deputy Singh was nabbed the day before, stated the district police authorities.“The accused were arrested while attempting to deliver the heroin to contacts in the district,” said Faridkot district police chief Girmeet Singh Randhawa.
He said that questioning of the two suspects revealed the heroin was of Pakistani origin and they were in contact with Pakistani smugglers using a cellphone SIM card from that country.
“Their village, Wan Tara Singh, is located close to the international border and the contraband was delivered to them by throwing it over the border fence,” Randhawa said.
The arrested persons were nabbed in Faridkot district while attempting to deliver the heroin to further contacts in the supply chain, he further added. With the arrests, the Faridkot district police claimed to have made an important breakthrough in its drive against drug trafficking.
Randhawa said that the two arrested persons would be interrogated thoroughly to unveil the complete drugs racket, including the Pak providers, the route used and the contacts at the Indian end to whom the contraband was to be supplied. Further investigations are going on.
