Cops recover jewellery stolen from Anand Jewellers

Sunday, 27 October 2013 | PNS | Ranchi

In a major breakthrough in the state’s biggest ever burglary case, Ranchi police on Friday made largest recovery in the recent times of stolen jewellries worth Rs 12.25 crore from water tank of the same building from where it had been stolen. The jewellries were kept safely in five water proof bags. No one has been arrested so far in this case.

Burglary of Rs 12.25 crore took place at Anand Jewellers on October 15 while the shop was closed for three days at the occasion of Durga Puja. The theft was disclosed on October 15 after the shop was opened on October 15.

The police on a tip-off raided the roof top of the building on Friday night and recovered jewelries in five different waterproof bags.

“All the stolen jewelries — both gold and diamonds — have been recovered except some silver ornaments which is negligible,” said SP City Manoj Ratan Chauthe.

The jewelleries were recovered late in the night on Friday by the police teams which were kept systematically in 14 small boxes within five waterproof bags in order to keep them safe from water. It seemed that those jewelries were kept by any of the experts who have all the knowledge of this trade.

Police however, is investigating every perspective of this case. “We are taking all the possibilities into consideration and will investigate accordingly,” said City SP Manoj Ratan Chauthe. No arrest has been done so far in this case, he added.

The police have been suspecting it to be a handiwork of some insider from the shop. The manner in which the jewelries have been recovered strengthens the suspicion raised by the police.

“It is also a possibility that the thieves, who came here to steal the jewelries, dumped it in the water tank suspecting that they might be caught by the people in the day light,” said Chauthe.

Meanwhile, Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FJCCI) have congratulated the SSP and his team for the quick recovery of jewelers within ten days of the incident and have demanded to arrest the culprits as soon as possible.

Expressing concern over the increasing incidents of theft cases the chamber in its letter to SSP Saket Kumar Singh has stated that they are worried on the increasing activity of criminals in the state and also requested to check them immediately.
