Congress SCC to set up a committee in every village

Tuesday, 31 December 2013 | PNS | Lucknow

In an attempt to win over the Dalits in view of the coming lok Sabha elections, the Congress Scheduled Castes Cell has decided to set up three-member committees in every village to highlight the problems of this section of society.

“Suggestions had been sought from people on ways to resolve the grievances of the Dalits at the village level. People have unequivocally demanded constitution of committees at the lower level to find out the problems that people are facing,” All-India Congress Committee SC Cell chairman K Raju told reporters here on Monday.

He said the Dalits want reservation in promotion and amendment to the SC/ST Atrocities Act.

“I will meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi and apprise her of the demand of the Dalits,” he added.

Chairman of National Commission for SC, ST and member of lok Sabha from Barabanki, Pl Punia, said that they would demand equal representation of Dalits in organisational posts.

“Our demand is that Dalits should also get good number of tickets in the next lok Sabha election,” Punia said.
