Bombing of Biryani shop owner leaves B'pur panicky

The Silk City once again witnessed an incident of bombing when a group of miscreants hurled bombs one after another at a shop owner in front of the Biju Pattnaik Park, the city’s busiest place under the Town police station on Monday Evening.

Well-known Biryani shop owner Seikh Safu was seriously injured in the incident with his right leg being completely damaged. According to locals, earlier the miscreants had some arguments with Safu leading to a scuffle between the miscreants and him. The miscreants then left the place before returning with bombs to settle scores with Safu.

When the miscreants wanted a safe passage to escape after attacking Safu, some local youths chased them and succeeded in overpowering two of them near the Satyanarayan Temple Road. The local youths beat both the miscreants, one of whom was seriously injured.

Being informed, Brahmapur SP Anirudha Singh, SDPO Thakur Prasad Patra, IIC of Town police station Anil Mishra and IIC of Badyanathpur police station Deepak Mishra reached the place of incident and started investigation. While one of the two miscreants nabbed by the locals has been detained along with seizure of the motorbike used in the incident in the police station for interrogation, the injured miscreant, identified as Jitu Swain, was admitted at the local MKCG Medical College Hospital.

Accused Jitu Swain is a resident of Jagannath Vihar of Sriramnagar area while the other accused Kamana Panda is a resident of Sitaram Street. Both were forwarded to court on Tuesday. Bombing victim Safu has been shifted to a hospital in Visakhapatnam from the MKCG College Hospital as his condition deteriorated.

Preliminary inquiry suggests that the previous enmity between the miscreants and the victim might be the cause of the incident. Town PS IIC Anil Mishra, however, refused to share more information at this juncture appending its impact on investigation.

Thousands of young boys everyday use to park their bikes on the road at every square of the city without any business, to which the police seem to be mute spectators not daring to ask youths about the purpose of such blocking of roads and unlawful assembly. “As a result of all this, we are scared to pass through such roads,” said an old woman of the Gandhinagar main road, Meera Bai.
