BJP, Cong losing ground in UP: SP

Sunday, 30 June 2013 | Pioneer News Service | Lucknow

The Samajwadi Party targetted the BJP and Congress for steadily losing ground in Uttar Pradesh’s electoral politics.

The two parties have more or less accepted the fact that the coming 2014 lok Sabha elections  will be a test of their popularity, which has hit an all time low in the Hindi heartland. Hitting out at the BJP and Congress, state SP spokesman, Rajendra Choudhary stated, "Frustrated at their continuous defeat in the past elections, both the BJP and Congress have now entrusted the job of reviving their respective party fortunes to leaders from Gujarat. While the BJP isbanking upon Narendra Modi, the Congress has brought in Madhusudan Mistri".He went on to say that the two parties should realise that it is easy to gather crowds to watch Dandiya dance, but it is a different matter to get votes.

He said the people of UP could never tolerate the faulty policies of both the parties, which were virtually playing to the tune of the corporate world and are only indulging in giving statements. They have failed to draw up any programmes for the poor, farmers and women. In fact even the Congress slogan of "garibi hatao" had turned to be a non starter, instead of eradicating poverty the party had removed the poor and the symbol of the hand was also not doing anything much to improve the plight of the people.

The Samajwadi Party accused both the parties for their anti-minority stance. The Congress, which has been in power for the last 66 years and is still ruling at the Centre and in several states has failed miserably to alleviate the plight of the Muslims. In the the Sachchar Committee, which was constituted by the Congress highlights that the condition of the minorities is worse than the dalits. The Congress was at the Centre and BJP in power in UP when the Babri Masjid was demolished. He further said that the poor, backwards, minorities have reposed faith in the SP national president Mulayam Singh Yadav.
