"Bharat Bharati"- a play for lost India

Tuesday, 02 April 2013 | SR | Bhopal

Showcasing the richness of ancient India, a Hindi play 'Bharat Bharati' was staged here on fourth-day of Rang Adhaar Theatre Festival 2013. Directed by Sanjay Mehta, the play was presented by Rangshirsh Organisation, Bhopal on Monday at Antrang Hall, Bharat Bhavan.

The plot is based on the poem "Bharati"of a well renowned poet, Maithli Sharan Gupt It showcases the ancient India as a golden bird highlighting the country's vanishing era. The poem was very famous in revoking freedom fighters during the struggle against colonial rule in India.

Bharat Bharati was written years ago, but it somehow gets connected to today's situations making people realize the magnificence that lied in traditions and cultures of the country.

Divided into two sections, presentation of the play first begins with a narration followed by some stanzas from the poem and gives a minute touch of 'geet katha'.

The second part is focused on the changing ideologies and beliefs of the people.

It presents the richness of the country in its spiritual beliefs, different traditions and cultures, stressing on the comparison between the ancient India and contemporary situations that has prevailed in the country.

While talking to 'The Pioneer', Sanjay Mehta said, "A new threat has developed in recent years in the shape of globalization dominated by Western multinationals. People need to know what is happening and what is to be done if a major tragedy is to be averted."

About presenting a play on a Hindi poem, Mehta further said, "Presenting a scripted play is not much difficult, but staging a poem in a play form naturally becomes difficult." He also said that it takes time to create such plays."The lighting and stage display were simple yet it enhanced the mood of the scenes.

A little essence of Minto's narration could be seen, a delightful treat for the theatre-goers.
