Speaker exhorts mlas to spread vivekananda’s word
Chandigarh: To perpetuate the rich legacy of country’s spiritual ambassador Swami Vivekananda, Punjab Assembly Speaker Dr Charnjeet Singh Atwal on Wednesday exhorted all MlAs to propagate his teachings and philosophy across the State especially amongst the youth. Presiding over a function to mark 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, organised at Assembly, Dr Atwal said the need of the hour was to perpetuate his rich legacy by spreading his message of love, communal harmony and brotherhood. Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal assured the State Government would extend full cooperation in spreading his message, and would organise a series of functions to mark his birth anniversary starting January 16.
 
PGI’s eye centre prepped for diwali eXIGENCY
Chandigarh: In view of Diwali festival and anticipation of a large number of emergencies due to firecracker injuries, PGIMER’s Advanced Eye Centre has made elaborate arrangements to meet emergencies and provide immediate treatment to the patients reporting to the PGI. The doctors have been put on special emergency duty round-the-clock at the Centre from the morning of November 2 till the morning of November 5 to attend to patients on arrival. The general public is advised to bring all eye emergencies to the Advanced Eye Centre immediately after injury as any delay would alter the outcome.  
 
BKI issues SSP Natl president threat to kill
Chandigarh: Sehajdhari Sikh Party (SSP) national president Paramjeet Singh Ranu on Wednesday alleged that he had been receiving threats from Sikh organisations to not pursue Sehajdhari voting rights case in the courts. “Now, when the issue has become more complicated legally in the Supreme Court, the Babbar Khalsa International has sent an e-mail on party’s official mail ID on its official letter pad with a warning to eliminate Ranu if he did not withdraw from the Sehajdhari issue,” stated the party release. An FIR under various sections of IT law and threats to kill has been registered in the Cyber Crime Police Station on September 19 and the investigations are being carried out by the police at a very higher level.
 
76 cheating cases registered
Chandigarh: As many as 76 cheating cases have been registered for using unfair means in Haryana School Education Board Examination held on Tuesday. Three such cheating cases have been caught in examination centres of Tosham and Bhiwani Kheda in district Bhiwani. He said that flying squads of Rapid Action Force have caught 29 cases and other flying squads have registered unfair means cases against 44 candidates.
 
Brig Maan takes oath as HSPRB chairman
Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Wednesday administered oath of office and secrecy to Brig (Retd) Joginder Singh Maan as Haryana State Police Recruitment Board chairman. Thanking the Chief Minister, Brig Maan said that he would discharge the duty assigned to him with honesty and dedication. Fair and transparent system would be adopted in the recruitment process, he added. He said that it was for the first time that a separate Board has been constituted for the recruitment of police personnel in the State, and soon 1347 posts of constables in ex-servicemen category would be filled up.
 
Rohtak MP blames Haryana for misusing youth
Jind: Rohtak Member of Parliament Deepender Singh Hooda on Wednesday criticised the previous Haryana Government for misusing the youth for political gains. Addressing a workers’ meeting organised at Safidon in district Jind, he said that there has been an incredible change in social environment of the State as before 2005, State’s youth were being pushed into criminal activities for political motives whereas at present, the youth have achieved new heights by getting into IAS, HCS, and IIT. Also, sportspersons of the State have set new records in the field of sports, he added.
 
ECI asks to seek clearance before issuing ads
Chandigarh: Election Commission of India has directed that all the advertisements, issued by non-poll going State Governments during Model Code of Conduct period should be forwarded to the Commission for clearance before they are sent for publication in newspapers having edition or having circulation in the poll bound states. Haryana Chief Electoral Officer Shrikant Walgad on Wednesday said that Commission has noted that advertisements issued by the some non-poll going States in newspapers having editions or having circulation in the poll bound States, without obtaining Commissions clearance is violation of the spirit of model code of conduct.
 
Haryana earns Rs 10,755.62 cr revenue by Sept
Chandigarh: Haryana Excise and Taxation Department has collected total revenue of over `10,755.62 crore up to September 2013 during the current financial year which is 9.12 per cent higher as compared to the corresponding period of last financial year. More than `9,856.90 crore has been collected during the same period during the last financial year. Excise and Taxation Minister Kiran Choudhry said that collection of Value Added Tax (VAT) up to September 2013 was more than `7,635.85 crore which was 7.74 per cent more as compared to that of the corresponding period last year.
 
Empanelment of four hospitals extended
Chandigarh: Haryana Government has decided to extend empanelment period of four private hospitals — Sun Flag Hospital and Research Centre, Faridabad; Fortis Escort Heart Institute and Research Centre limited, New Delhi; Fortis Escort Hospital, Faridabad; and Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre, Delhi — for two years. The decision was taken to provide facility of treatment to employees, pensioners and their dependents. All empanelled hospitals shall provide treatment to employees in the event of a life threatening emergency without asking for deposition of the cost of treatment in advance.
 
Two IPS promoted as ADGP, four as IGP
Chandigarh: Haryana Government has issued promotion orders of two IPS officers as Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) and four to the post of Inspector General of Police (IGP) with immediate effect. The State Government has also issued transfer orders of six IPS officers. Those who have promoted as ADGP included KK Mishra, and V Kamaraja, while Charu Bali, Subhash Yadav, Dr CS Rao and Sandeep Khirwar are promoted as IGP. K Selvaraj who is posted as ADGP CAW has been given the charge of ADGP State Vigilance Bureau against a vacant post. Manisha Chaudhary ASP Panchkula has been shifted as such at Hisar.
 
Haryana to commence mining operations
Chandigarh: Haryana Excise and Taxation Minister Kiran Choudhry said that mining would once again commence in the State. Addressing the Congress party workers in Bhiwani, she said that she had raised this issue at various levels including Chief Minister, Union Environment Ministry and others. While adopting a positive attitude towards this issue, the State Government has decided to start mining work, she added. She said that with recommencement of mining work, not only unemployed labourers would get employment, but the material would also be available at reasonable price.
 
Tirupati Balaji Temple’s replica to bring Haryana on international tourist map
Panchkula: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Wednesday said that Sri Venkateswara Swami (Balaji) Temple, a replica of Tirupati Balaji Temple in Andhra Pradesh, is being constructed at Kurukshetra which would place Haryana on the map of international tourism. Interacting with the media persons after laying the foundation stone of Community Centre at Sri Venkateswara Swami Temple, Panchkula, Hooda said that it is commendable that Sri Venkateswara Swami Temple Trust, Panchkula, organized annual function of the temple every year where Yajna and other religious practices are performed on the pattern of Tirupati Balaji Temple in Andhra Pradesh.
