26,655 severely malnourished kids identified
Bhopal: As many as 26,655 severely malnourished children were identified in Madhya Pradesh’s Sheopur District over the past four years, Women and Child Development Minister Ranjana Baghel informed the Assembly on Thursday.
“The number of malnourished children in the medium category was 1,40,567. From 2008-12, Rs 13,79,49,00,000 were spent on such kids — in the District — under the heads of nutritious food, the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bal Arogya and Poshan Mission and Project Shaktimaan,” she said in a written reply to Brajraj Singh Chouhan of Congress.
A survey conducted in the District by the Hyderabad-based National Institute of Nutrition in 2010-11 found that 52.30 per cent children up to five years were malnourished while 8.60 per cent were severely malnourished. “This proves that the malnourishment percentage has declined in the District,” the Minister added.
MPPEB receives Rs1,07,50,53,000 as fees
Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Technical Education Minister laxmikant Sharma on Thursday informed the Assembly that the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) has received over Rs 1,07,50,53,000 as fees from the candidates for admission and eligibility tests in three years since 2010.
In a written reply to Dharmu Singh of Congress, Sharma said that during these period in all 24 examinations were conducted for 99,505 posts in which 32,33,923 candidates had appeared.
He said that posts were reserved for 2,852 women, 1,351 physically challenged and 1,449 ex army personnel candidates of which 10,69,545 women, 47,746 physically handicapped and 4,210 ex army personnel appeared in the examination.
Manav Sangrahalaya to hold workshop

RRCAT to celebrate Science Day on Feb 23
Indore: The Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology (RRCAT) will celebrate the National Science Day on the institute campus on February 23. Though the National Science Day is celebrated on February 28 as it was on this day in 1928, CV Raman announced the discovery of the Raman Effect, this year the NSD will be celebrated on February 23.
More than 1500 students of science stream from XI and XII standard of the schools of Indore city and nearby places have been invited to visit various laboratories of this scientific institute. On the occasion, RRCAT has planned various activities like display of exhibition of posters, presentations at RRCAT laboratories, etc.
Dr PD Gupta, Director, RRCAT will address and brief the students about the scientific activities of RRCAT, a leading centre in India in the field of lasers and particle accelerators. During the visit, the volunteers will escort students to Synchrotron Radiation Sources (SRS) Indus-1 and Indus-2, laser laboratories, cryogenic laboratory, workshop and other interesting laboratories. HS Vora, Convener and Rajesh Arya, Co-convener has made elaborate arrangements to make the function a success.
Canal proposed for irrigation of fields
Gwalior: The Water Resources department has prepared a plan to construct a canal to provide Tighra river water for irrigation to about three dozen villages in an area of 35 km. The plan is likely to be sent to Bhopal shortly. The canal has been formulated in two parts. The first part would be from Tighra to Motijheel and the second part from Tighra via Kulaith to Motijheel. The CE, Water Resources department, N.P Kori said that nothing could be said about the construction of canal as of now.
Mayor grants relief to pensioners
Gwalior: The mayor has 15 per cent relief in property tax to pensioners living within the city limit. The decision would benefit over 6,000 retired persons. This benefit would be given with effect from financial year 2013-14.
Bandh hits normal life in Gwalior
Gwalior: Hundreds of agitators stopped the Chhattisgarh Express coming from Delhi here on Thursday as part of their nationwide strike call of trade unions against violation of labour laws and wrong economic policies of the Central government.
The workers lay on the tracks, shouted slogans and prevented the train from moving on to its destination.
Since, the unions had announced their plan to stop the train a day earlier, there were tight security arrangements, including RPF, GRP and district police jawans deployed at the station.
In other parts of the city, vehicles remained off roads and shops had downed shutters. Banking activities were severely hit.
Bank employees staged a demonstration at Phool Bagh. lIC employees demonstrates at the City Center. Telecommunications employees demonstrated at Achlashwar.
School children were the worst hit as autos and vans remained off roads. Auto drivers were seen enforcing the bandh at railway station, Hazira Bada and Phool Bagh Chouraha. Petrol pumps that opened at 5 am had to face closure at 7 am. Hundreds of railway employees staged dharna under the banner of North Central Railwaymen’s union.
The leaders said the agitation would be intensified if their demands were not met. Zonal assistant general secretary of Central Railwaymen’s Union, VS Kansana said that number of trains was being increased each year, but the number of employees remained the same.
