After a retaliatory attack on Pakistani prisoner Sanaullah Haq in Jammu jail, the authorities in high security Hindalga prison at Belgaum in Karnataka are worried over the safety of a lone Pakistani prisoner Mohammad Fahad who is facing terror charges.
A source in the jail told The Pioneer that Mohammad Fahad who is said to be part of terror outfit Al Badr is in Hindalga prison since November 2012 and has been kept in safety fearing retaliatory attacks by the murder convicts who stay next to him. The official said, “We have taken all precautions and kept him in safety fearing an attack by the inmates”.
31-year-old Mohammad Fahad, a Pakistani but has his family links from Kerala, was arrested by Mysore Police in October 2006 on the charges of plotting terror attacks in Mysore and Bangalore. He was arrested along with Ali Hussein a Kashmiri lodged in Srinagar prison.
According to KV Gagandeep, Additional Director General of Police (Prisons), Fahad was the only Pakistani prisoner lodged in Karnataka jails. He also said his security had been reviewed after the recent incident of a retaliatory attack. He told The Pioneer that adequate security has been provided to him and a jailer has been made in charge to look after his security. He said, “He is the only Pakistani prisoner in Karnataka jail. He is in Hindalga jail in Belgaum. We have kept him in a separate cell. We have provided adequate security for him.”
According to his advocate BN Jagadish, Fahad’s trail before 3rd Additional Session’s Court in Mysore had come to a halt due to a stay by the Karnataka High Court on an application by the Enforcement Directorate. Jagadish expressed concern over safety of Fahad and said he would move the concerned authorities in this regard.
According to jail authorities, fearing security of Fahad he has been moved to a separate cell along with security. According to available records, Fahad’s family were originally from Kerala but now in Pakistan. His mother, a retired schoolteacher (Zubeida Khanum) along with her ailing husband is making all efforts to get her son released.
Two suspected militants with some arms and ammunition were arrested on 26 October 2006 in Mysore near Infosys campus. The arrested were identified as Fahad a chemical engineer and Ali Hussein.
