The impact study on 20 kilometre stretch between Vikaspuri and Wazirabad stretch has claimed that new corridor between two points will help to save Rs430 crore per annum — including Rs130 crore per annum on fuel .
A network of eight flyovers and elevated roads to make the drive from Vikaspuri to Wazirabad on the Outer Ring Road will help to decongest of traffic, saving on fuel and travelling time as it will help driver to use clutches and brakes less. The Delhi Government has also claimed to be saving Rs165 crore every year on fuel and time on Barapullah elevated road.
PWD Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan told The Pioneer that the corridor will be proved to be a win win situation for the commuters and the Government.
According to PWD, the impact study shown that 58,000 litre fuel will be saved every day. It means on an average Rs130 crore per annum will be saved. In addition, 80 tonnes of carbon dioxide to be saved. It is estimated that Rs430 crore every year and total cost of the project which is Rs2,400 crore, may be recovered in four year. On an average, Rs75-80 lakh would be saved per day,” said Chauhan.
Currently, the travelling time is estimated between one and half hour on this stretch. After the completion of this corridor, travelling time will be about 30 minutes. In other words, it would save 45 minutes. According to study, over 1.80 lakh vehicles use this stretch with on average speed of 25-30 km per hour which would be expected to be increased to 50-55 kms per hour.
“While a motorist on an average is saving time and fuel, the elevated stretch will help the Government in cutting pollution and conserving invaluable fuel,” added Chauhan.
